Aviation, being one of the hardest sectors to decarbonise, will need a range of solutions. Up to 70% of emissions reductions will come from SAF use by 2050 in Europe and the UK. This webinar examines what aspects of SAF mandates are working, what needs to be improved and what else needs to be implemented to accelerate the production of SAF.
The event features Jonathon Counsell, Group Sustainability Director at International Airports Group. Jonathon holds a master's degree in Mechanical Engineering from Imperial College London and an MBA from INSEAD Fontainebleau France. In July 2015, he became group head of sustainability for the International Airlines Group, overseeing sustainability strategy across five airlines: Aer Lingus, British Airways, Iberia, Level and Vueling. In January 2025, Jonathon was appointed IAG Group Director of Sustainability. He was also appointed as a member of the UK government's Jet Zero Task Force experts group in December 2024. In 2024, he was awarded an honorary doctorate from Cranfield University for his outstanding and sustained contribution to embedding sustainability across the aviation sector, and in 2025, he received the Air League's President's Meritorious Service Award for his tireless dedication and commitment to sustainability and nurturing the next generation of talent.
