BMFA Scale Indoor Nationals 2027 (provisional dates)

The BMFA Scale Indoor Nationals is an annual radio-controlled and free-flight scale model aircraft competition held at Wolverhampton University Walsall Campus Sports Hall. The 2027 event is provisionally scheduled for 24th and 25th April.

The competition features multiple classes across Radio Control (RC) and Free Flight (FF) categories. RC classes include RCX1 (Scale Radio Control Indoor – Open), RCX2 (Flying Only), and RCX3 (Kit Scale), with an Air Race component. Free Flight categories encompass FFX1 (Open Rubber Powered), FFX2 (Open CO2 or Electric Powered), FFX3 (Intermediate), FFX4 (Kit Scale), FFX5 (Peanut), FFX6 (Pistachio), and FFX7 (No-Cal Profile), alongside Scale Glider and Air Race events.

The nationals attract competitors from across the UK and beyond, with results determined according to the BMFA Scale Rule Book. Tied placings are resolved using countback methods based on next-best flight scores. The event is organised by the BMFA Scale Technical Committee and benefits from support by judges, volunteers, sponsors, and Wolverhampton University facilities.

Wolverhampton University has become the traditional home for this competition, providing excellent indoor facilities for scale model flying. The event serves as a showcase for precision scale modelling and flying skills, with categories ranging from highly detailed open-class models to standardised kit builds and specialised classes such as peanut-scale aircraft.
