This Royal Aeronautical Society Gloucester and Cheltenham Branch lecture explores Sir George Dowty's enduring legacy in landing gear engineering. The event features Chris Morgan, retired Vice President of Airbus Programs at Safran Landing Systems, who will discuss his 47-year career in the Dowty landing gear business before retiring in 2025.
Chris has written a book recognising how Sir George Dowty's landing gear legacy has continued strongly over the half-century since his passing. The lecture will examine that enduring legacy, highlighting the key people, programmes and engineering achievements that have carried it forward. Chris's career spans from joining Dowty Group in 1978 as a student apprentice through to his recent senior leadership role, including significant work on Airbus aircraft programmes (A320, A330/A340, A350) and Boeing's X-32 JSF concept demonstrator.
The hybrid event takes place on 20 October 2026 from 19:00–21:00 BST, with registration required for both in-person and online attendees. The programme includes a welcome at 19:00, with the lecture commencing at 19:30. Those attending in person must enter via the front entrance and report to reception, from where they will be escorted to the Restaurant Conference Room. Online participation is available via Microsoft Teams.
