The RAeS Aerodynamics Conference 2026, titled 'The Shape of Things to Come: The Future of Aerodynamics?', explores significant contemporary challenges facing aerodynamic discipline and research. Despite powered flight being well into its second century, the aerospace sector continues to face challenges in understanding how aircraft interact with air, with new technologies, changing industry priorities and sustainability drives reshaping both practice and teaching.
The conference brings together perspectives from academia and industry to examine how advances in technology, engineering and education address future aviation demands. Programme themes include: measurement and modelling of complex flows (turbulent flows, vortices, boundary layers, CFD validation and quantum computing opportunities); Certification by Analysis developments and aerodynamics' role within CbA frameworks; academic and industrial applications of AI in aerodynamics research and development; graduate attributes and evolving skill requirements for aerodynamicists; and aerodynamic design implications of alternative and next-generation powertrains including hydrogen, electric, hybrid systems, ultra-high bypass and open-rotor engines.
The event features the RAeS Lanchester Named Lecture on Day 1 evening at RAeS Headquarters. This is a hybrid event, welcoming both in-person and online delegates. RAeS Student Affiliates and Apprentice Affiliates are eligible for ten complimentary places on a first-come, first-served basis.
